Sensory Medical Pedicure

Combining Chiropody and Therapeutics

Look after your feet with a Sensory Medical Pedicure. The combination of chiropody and therapeutics means you will leave not only feeling relaxed, with refreshed and hydrated feet but also safe in the knowledge your feet have been treated by a Foot Health Practitioner who can identify or treat potential problems.

A sensory medical pedicure is an intensive, non-invasive treatment which ensures both the health and beauty of your feet.

It is different to a salon pedicure or regular pedicure and is popular with both men and women.
The term “Medical” is used because this is a dry pedicure which is undertaken by a highly trained, qualified, and regulated Foot Health Practitioner who can practice chiropody treatments.

Painful corns, calluses, hard, dry skin, heel cracks and fissures are all treated using single use blades, a chiropody drill and instruments that are of medical grade quality which have been sterilised in an autoclave between treatments to ensure no cross infection between clients.

During your individualised chiropody treatment, the foot health practitioner will advise you on any foot problem they notice when they examine your feet, such as fungal toenails, ingrown toenails, athlete’s foot, verrucas, as well as advise on how to look after your feet safely at home. For people who have underlying conditions such as diabetes, autoimmune disease, and cancer, sensory medical pedicures are a safe option as there is a minimal risk of infection of cuts or infections which could compromise their health.

The term “Sensory” is used to describe the aesthetic part of this specialist pedicure and how your feet feel afterwards. The Foot Health Practitioner pays special attention to your toenails and will file, shape and buff them to a shine. If they are damaged or thickened, they will reduce any thickness with the chiropody drill. Instead of nail paint which can be damaging to the nail plate, we apply a nail conditioning treatment. You are of course free to apply your own nail paint when you get home or visit your beautician.
Cuticles are not cut away as this may increase the risk of an infection, instead, the practitioner will pay special attention to conditioning the cuticles.

What happens during a Sensory Medical Pedicure

Your Foot Health Practitioner will appraise your feet and nails and with knowledge of your medical history and medication you are taking, will decide on the most appropriate chiropody treatment and products for your individual foot health.

  • Dry skin is exfoliated using Dermatonics Lime Essential Oil and Coconut scrub
  • Emtrix Nail Renewal treatment, enriched with natural Tea Tree Oil is applied to the toenails and cuticles, reducing discolouration and ensuring healthy nail growth
  • The skin is deeply hydrated using Emtrix Foot Mask All in 1 which is designed to hydrate, nourish and exfoliate
  • Your feet are then put into warm booties which help with deeper hydration of the skin, especially the heels and aid circulation
  • A therapeutic massage with Dermatonics creams to suit your skin needs is performed using reflexology, mobilisation and Thai Foot Massage techniques to gently stimulate lymph drainage, help circulation and rejuvenate tired muscles in the feet and legs.
